On the Change or Changing Your Life?

The menopause gets a bad press in my opinion. Don’t shout at me. Let me clarify.

I mean, it’s actually good that it’s getting press at all. My mum never really talked about it. My Grandma certainly didn’t. Go back more than a hundred or so years and it wasn’t so much of an issue because life expectancy was an awful lot less. But now us ladies spend around a third of our lives on average either perimenopausal or post-menopausal. So my mission, should you choose to accept it, is to GET THE WHOLE WORLD TALKING ABOUT MENOPAUSE!

But why the bad press? Okay - so there are debilitating symptoms. Both physical and psychological. Have a read of my blog post (“It’s not just hot flushes”) for more on this.

Relationships (both romantic and platonic) can become strained or break down. Libidos disappearing left, right and centre, it’s no wonder really. Yes, thinking about it, menopause sucks, it really does.

But at the same time, I’ve found that MINDSET is one of the most powerful things there is. If we can “Spin” the menopause – “Reframe it” if you will and start to think of it as actually a positive thing – then the symptoms will become more bearable, you can arm yourself with tools and techniques to help you truly change your life for the better.

In Chinese Medicine, Menopause is actually called the “Second Spring”. It is viewed as a positive life stage, a natural stage of life when a woman can actually work with nature to have a positive impact on her health.
Take this time to look after your personal development. There are techniques you can use to help – mindfulness (see my blog “5 ways to journey through menopause with positivity and confidence”), meditation, yoga, and so on. You can improve your nutrition – eat more of a Mediterranean diet – fruit, vegetables, nuts, fish, olive oil – cut down on alcohol and caffeine – I can guarantee you’ll feel better (and that may help sleep problems and brain fog too).

We can take steps (LITERALLY!) for our health. Get in your 10,000 per day. Look after your body strength. It’s an actual opportunity to change your life for the better.

I know it can be hard to make changes – but change your life when you’re on the change and you’ll never look back – you’ve got this.
